Ketchum Campus Named in Memory of Rufus M. Brown

Friends of Community School, the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF), and Liz Brown gathered at Community School's Ketchum Campus on March 21 to name the facility in memory of Liz's late husband, Rufus M. Brown. Natives of New Orleans, Louisiana, Liz and Rufus moved to the Wood River Valley in 1996 and quickly devoted themselves to philanthropic efforts that supported the area's cultural and recreational opportunities. As a former Board Chair of SVSEF, and an early supporter of the Sun Valley Ski Academy (SVSA), Rufus was especially drawn to helping young people thrive. Rufus passed away on June 3, 2013 at the age of 57 after a courageous battle with cancer. To honor her husband, and their joint commitment to the SVSA, Liz led an effort to create a lasting legacy for Rufus by garnering transformative support for the Campaign for the Ketchum Campus. "We are incredibly grateful to Liz Brown for her belief in and advocacy of this transformative project and to the friends and family who chose to honor Rufus in this meaningful way. The long-term impact of the gifts made to honor Rufus on the lives of young people and on the vitality of our community cannot be overstated," said Head of School Ben Pettit. The culmination of the vision, commitment, hard work, and generosity of many people, Rufus M. Brown Hall is now in its second year of operations.
