On Wednesday, some of our Elementary and Middle School students enjoyed a visit from Tonny Trumpet, a teacher and musician from Uganda. He taught our students songs in Luganda—a language native to Kampala, the capital of Uganda—including the Lugandan version of "The Itsy Bitsy Spider." Our students tried their hands at percussion to accompany these songs and shared in the joy of making music together. We know that music is good for the brain and the spirit. So is connecting with people from other cultures. As a school, we are committed to encouraging our students to develop a global perspective and an understanding and appreciation for other traditions. Visits like this one help plant many seeds: a love of music and a connection to the wider world.
