Stocks, bonds, and investing, oh my! Each week, just over 20 Upper School Cutthroats gather in US Math Teacher Johanna Edwards’ (Miss E) classroom to strategize and invest: welcome to Investment Club. Now in its sixth year, this year’s club (led by senior Sammy Milne) has four teams, with each team fielding 4-6 students. Co-run since 2020 by Miss E and US Economics teacher Caroline Bomstein, the purpose of the club is to give kids exposure to investing, wealth management, investment strategy, and client support. 

Says Caroline, “Each year students register in the Wharton School of Business High School Investment Competition and Wharton provides the client profile; a real person with real investment goals. Then, students tailor an investment portfolio to adhere to the client's needs. Students from around the world participate, so it is an awesome opportunity for our Cutthroats. The club teaches students how to invest and how to manage their money with specific goals in mind. The goal of the club is not to see who makes the most money, it asks students to create an overall strategy and carry it through over the course of about three months. Students learn to work together and curate an investment portfolio that meets the rather specific confines of the competition."

¡Acciones, bonos e inversiones! Cada semana, más de 20 estudiantes de la Escuela Secundaria se reúnen en el aula de la profesora de matemáticas Johanna Edwards (Miss E) para planificar estrategias e invertir: bienvenidos al Club de Inversión. En su sexto año, el club de este año (dirigido por el estudiante del Grado 12 Sammy Milne) cuenta con cuatro equipos, cada uno con entre 4 y 6 estudiantes. Codirigido desde 2020 por Miss E y la profesora de Economía Caroline Bomstein, el objetivo del club es brindar a los estudiantes oportunidades de inversión, gestión patrimonial, estrategia de inversión y atención al cliente.

Caroline comenta: «Cada año, los estudiantes se inscriben en la Competición de Inversión de la Escuela de Negocios Wharton, y Wharton proporciona el perfil del cliente: una persona real con objetivos de inversión concretos. Posteriormente, los estudiantes diseñan una cartera de inversión adaptada a sus necesidades. Participan estudiantes de todo el mundo, lo que supone una oportunidad fantástica para nuestros Cutthroats. El club enseña a los estudiantes a invertir y a administrar su dinero con objetivos específicos. El objetivo del club no es ver quién gana más dinero, sino que les pide a los alumnos que creen una estrategia general y la lleven a cabo durante unos tres meses. Los estudiantes aprenden a colaborar y a diseñar una cartera de inversión que se ajuste a las características específicas de la competición».
