Residential Traditions/TRADICIONES DE LA RESIDENCIA

Our Residence Hall welcomed 30 boarding students this year, hailing from around the country (Illinois, Washington, California, Colorado, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana) and world (Ukraine and Finland)! To start the school year off, students and residential staff embarked on two dorm traditions (and there are MANY!): whitewater rafting the Snake River and enjoying the Twin Falls County Fair.

On September 1, both dorm and day students ventured in a parade of white vans down to Bliss for a morning of whitewater rafting on the Snake River. The majority of students rafted with Director of Residential Life Clay Wawner and Residential Advisor Will Stack taking the helm of the two boats. Also peppering the river were lots of kayakers. New and veteran kayakers alike took to the rapids with math teacher and RA Taylor Alexander, whose tips and pointers kept everyone pumped. No dorm rafting trip would be complete without a proper water fight to wrap up the float. Whether it was tugging faculty members into the water or engaging in paddle balance games that inevitably resulted in water time, everyone got drenched! 

Following an exciting morning on the Snake River, the dorm drove to the Twin Falls County Fair. Yeehaw! They took in a  monster truck show, where they witnessed the peculiar sight of cars zooming around, missing their rear tires, and huge trucks launching themselves over jumps. The students then had the freedom to explore the fairgrounds, where they found bunnies, cows, and goats to pet, water guns to buy, slingshot rides to white-knuckle, and plenty of fried food to indulge in. It was a wonderful day of dorm camaraderie, adrenaline, and lots of laughs. We’re already counting down the days until next year! 

Nuestra Residencia recibió a 30 estudiantes internos este año, provenientes de todo el país (Illinois, Washington, California, Colorado, Oregón, Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana) y del mundo (Ucrania y Finlandia). Para comenzar el año escolar, los estudiantes y el personal de la residencia se embarcaron en dos tradiciones (y hay MUCHAS): rafting en el río Snake y disfrutar de la Feria del Condado de Twin Falls.

El 1 de septiembre, tanto los estudiantes de la residencia como los de día se aventuraron en un desfile de camionetas blancas hasta Bliss para disfrutar de una mañana de rafting en el río Snake. La mayoría de los estudiantes hicieron rafting con el Director de Vida Residencial, Clay Wawner, y el Asesor Residencial, Will Stack, al timón de las dos embarcaciones. También había muchos kayakistas. Kayakistas, tanto nuevos como veteranos, se lanzaron a los rápidos con el profesor de matemáticas y asistente residente, Taylor Alexander, cuyos consejos y sugerencias los mantuvieron a todos entusiasmados. Ninguna excursión de rafting en la Residencia estaría completa sin una buena pelea de agua para terminar la flotación. Ya fuera tirando a los profesores al agua o participando en juegos de equilibrio con los remos que inevitablemente terminaban en el agua, ¡todos acabaron empapados!

Tras una emocionante mañana en el río Snake, se dirigieron a la Feria del Condado de Twin Falls. ¡Qué pasada! Asistieron a un espectáculo de camiones monstruo, donde presenciaron la peculiar imagen de coches pasando a toda velocidad, sin neumáticos traseros, y camiones enormes lanzándose por los saltos. Después, los estudiantes tuvieron la libertad de explorar el recinto ferial, donde encontraron conejos, vacas y cabras para acariciar, pistolas de agua para comprar, paseos en tirachinas para ponerlos nerviosos y muchísima comida frita para disfrutar. Fue un día maravilloso de camaradería en el dormitorio, adrenalina y muchas risas. ¡Ya estamos contando los días para el próximo año!
