Chase Josey '13: Beijing Update!
Congratulations to SVCS/SVSA alum Chase Josey '13 who recently competed in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Chase competed in the snowboard halfpipe and ultimately placed an amazing 7th! This was Chase's second Olympic appearance; He placed sixth in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Since then, his highlights include a fifth-place showing at the 2021 World Championships and a performance in December that netted him sixth place at the U.S. Grand Prix event at Copper Mountain, Colorado. To honor Chase’s achievement, some of his fellow Cutthroats embarked on a letter writing campaign prior to Chase’s departure with words of encouragement. These creative words of congratulations were sent to him in Beijing as a part of a care package. "Our Cutthroat community could not be more proud of Chase,” said SVSA Program Director Jonna Mendes. “When I asked our Elementary School students to write letters to Chase to send along to Beijing, I had no idea how incredible their response would be. I am so proud to be sending dozens of letters and drawings to Beijing from Sun Valley Community School. The theme is universal in the letters: “Our school is so proud of you!” All in all, Jonna estimates around 50 letters were written and sent to Chase to show some Cutthroat PRIDE in Beijing!
