Sun Valley is the original destination ski resort.

As the home of the first chairlift in the United States—erected on Proctor Mountain in 1936—the resort set the standard as the premier place to play in the snow. A consistent presence on “Best Of” resort listings—most recently named second-best ski resort in the West by Ski Magazine—the town and the terrain, both alpine and cross country, are legendary.

Bald Mountain and its sister slope, Dollar Mountain, have been lauded repeatedly for consistent slope, well-groomed runs, and lack of crowds.

  • Bald Mountain hosted the US Alpine National Championships in 2016 and 2018.
  • Cross country skiers flock to the Wood River Valley’s more-than 200 kilometers of groomed trails, leading Ketchum to be designated “Nordic Town U.S.A.”
  • Dollar Mountain, the site of 2016 and 2017 USSA Freestyle & Freeski Junior National Championships, is home to terrain parks and big air venues ideal for skiers and snowboarders.

Beyond the world-class ski and snowboard terrain, Sun Valley, Ketchum, and the entire Wood River Valley boast myriad opportunities for outdoor adventure, cultural events, dining, and shopping. From hiking in the Sawtooth Mountains to biking world-renowned single track; from enjoying lectures by famous authors to taking in the latest concert; from learning how to cast a fly fishing rod to whitewater rafting one of our local rivers, Sun Valley is one vast playground.

Our Backyard

Sun Valley is epic— it’s a world-class resort, but beyond that it's such an outdoor-oriented place in general; it’s amazing.
