Founded
in 1973 to provide students in the Wood River Valley with a quality
independent education, Community School offers a pre-k through twelfth
grade curriculum that combines rigorous academics, fine and performing
arts, athletics, community service, and outdoor education.
Community School emphasizes excellence in academics, preparing students
for placement in outstanding colleges and universities. Besides
readying students for college, we prepare them for living meaningful,
purposeful lives. Our culture encourages creativity, ethical
decision-making, respect for others and service to the community.
Nestled
amidst five mountain ranges in the heart of Sun Valley, Idaho, our
school boasts one of the most beautiful and extraordinary campus
settings in the country. Our classrooms include rivers, forests and
mountains, and our unique Outdoor Program teaches students leadership,
confidence and self-reliance.
Community School excels in
providing Fine and Performing Arts opportunities. Whether it's singing,
acting, painting, sculpture or more cutting edge media presentation, we
offer outlets for all creative impulses. We also seek partnerships with
the Sun Valley arts community to provide rich and varied experiences.
Our
students compete in a broad range of sports, including soccer,
volleyball, track & field, basketball, tennis and golf. Further, our
location provides snow-sport athletes access to world-class training
facilities and coaching. We encourage students in their athletic
endeavors outside of school, from skiers, snowboarders and skaters to
competitive equestrians, gymnasts and swimmers.
We actively
foster ongoing relationships with local non-profit organizations, and
make community service part of our school culture. Many seniors choose
to complete their final-year projects volunteering with service
organizations throughout the world.
