Our school reflects the active lives of residents and visitors to the Wood
River Valley. We are a community of skiers, snowboarders, hockey
players, runners, bikers, golfers, and basketball, tennis, and soccer
players.
Our Elementary School physical education program teaches the skills
required to participate throughout life in many different sports and
recreational activities. We emphasize the development of a positive
self-image and promote the desire to participate in physical
activities. Participation, not competition, is the key element of our
Elementary School program. Many ES students participate outside
school in local skiing, hockey, soccer, and basketball programs.
Our Middle School students are required to participate in one team sport
per academic year. We offer soccer, cross-country running, basketball,
and track for boys and girls, and volleyball for girls. We also
encourage students to participate in physical activities outside school
such as skiing, snowboarding, hockey, martial arts, dance, or horseback
riding. Our Enrichment Program offers opportunities for organized physical activity, including flag football, biking, running, climbing, hiking, and more.
Upper School students are expected to complete eight
seasons of physical education. More than 85% of them do so by participating
in competitive athletics, including boys' and girls' soccer,
cross-country running, basketball, golf and tennis, and girls'
volleyball. Students may also participate with the local public high
school in sports we do not offer, such as football, baseball, and swimming. As in
Elementary and Middle School, many Upper School students participate in
physical activities outside of school.
Our athletic teams have competed in numerous state tournaments in various classifications and
have won nine State Championships. Strong parental support and an
excellent coaching staff drive the success of our program. With great
dedication, our coaches instill sportsmanship, enthusiasm and
proficiency in our athletes. We value the fact that our graduates
continue to participate in sports throughout their lives.
