Read-A-Thon

Hey, Fish…it’s time to READ!

Dear Parents and Students,

This is your Read-A-Thon folder complete with rules, forms and supporting information about the 2009 TCS Read-A Thon. Students will be asked to keep track of the number of minutes they read between Nov. 1 and Nov. 28th requesting monetary pledges from friends and family members. The money raised will benefit the Community School’s Parents’Association, whose contributions are used to support educational programs for the school.

The Read-A-Thon will encourage children to read as much as possible and foster a love of reading via special events on-going throughout the month of November.

Kick-off celebration with a special edition of Community Meeting on November 2nd.

Stop, Drop & Read!   A school day dedicated to reading. Students may come to school in their pajamas and Special Guest Mystery Readers will visit the classrooms, November 6th (a scheduled half-day)

ES Arts Night will highlight the Read-A-Thon with a creative book-themed station the evening of November 19th.

Almost any reading counts (see Rules).  Our littlest readers may keep track of the minutes that they read OR that someone reads to them.  Just keep an eye on the clock when you start and finish and watch how quickly the minutes add up.  Prizes will be awarded!

We suggest a pledge of  $.05 cents per minute, per student.  If each student sets a goal to read 1000 minutes over four weeks (about a half-hour a day), this pledge equals $50.  However, NO amount is ever too much or too little and any pledge is greatly appreciated!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

Help support your young reader by sponsoring them in the

TCS Read-A-Thon!
