Our mission is to engage students of diverse talents in an
intellectually challenging and supportive school culture. We endeavor
to foster in our students self-confidence, integrity, responsibility to
their community and a life-long passion for learning.
Community School is a warm and inclusive community that welcomes
families and students from diverse backgrounds. We value the richness
that our families bring to the school from their various life
experiences.
We believe in the importance of creating a learning environment where
diverse ideas and multiple opinions can be shared and where students
are not afraid to step outside their comfort zone. We encourage our
students to take intellectual risks and to become critical and
independent thinkers with the ability to examine issues from all
sides.
By exposing students to a variety of ideas and encouraging
collaboration with peers, we seek to cultivate citizens who are
compassionate, open-minded, and creative in their thought processes.
Because we are geographically isolated, we understand that exposure to
other cultures, traditions, and beliefs is paramount in helping our
students become responsible citizens who are aware of the larger global
community.
Our small school size and close interpersonal relationships between
teachers, students, and parents, support our belief that every member
of our community is a worthy and deserving individual who should be
accorded respect.
With this in mind, the school is committed to creating a community that
is supportive of children, families and teachers of all backgrounds
including different learning styles/learning abilities, race, religion,
sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical disability, age, socioeconomic
class, and gender.
How we promote diversity at Community School:
1) We promote socio-economic diversity through a robust financial aid program.
2) We include global/international perspectives in our curriculum
3) Our investment in the learning specialist program affirms our
mission of accepting students with diverse talents and abilities.
4) We are developing an exchange program with a school in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, to offer our students a chance to experience another
culture.
5) We are actively exploring recruitment of students from other
countries as well as from other geographic areas in the United States.
6) We are actively exploring the creation of a scholarship specifically to attract more Latino students.
