Upper School  | Curriculum Guide  |  Academic Calendar FlexPlan | College Planning Guide

Community School's Academic Calendar FlexPlan allows students (particularly winter sport athletes) a way to plan their high school curriculum that ensures they can compete during the winter term with a reduced course load without compromising the quality of their education. The FlexPlan allows students to reduce their academic course load to as few as three core classes during the winter term in ninth through twelfth grades.

Winter Trimester | November 26, 2012 to March 8, 2013

Ninth Grade
Geometry or Algebra 1, Biology 9, Language
Requires Community Summer School Courses in English 9, History 9 and an elective: Psychology, Photography, Art, Computer Science or
Astronomy the summer before Ninth grade.

Tenth Grade
Geometry or Algebra 2, Chemistry, Language (Algebra 2 is also offered in the summer.)
Requires Community Summer School Courses in English 10, History 10 and an elective:
Psychology, Photography, Art, Computer Science, Astronomy or Anatomy the summer before Tenth grade.

Eleventh Grade
Algebra 2 or PreCalculus, Physics, Language
(Algebra 2 is also offered in the summer.)
Requires Community Summer School Courses in English 11, U.S. History and an elective: Psychology, Photography, Art, Computer Science, Astronomy or Anatomy the summer before Eleventh grade. If Astronomy or Anatomy is completed during the summer, then an elective course may be substituted for Physics in the winter term.  The Junior Thesis is also offered in the summer which can significantly reduce the work load during the winter term.

Twelfth Grade
PreCalculus or Calculus, Language, Elective
Requires Community Summer School Courses in English 12, and an elective:
Psychology, Photography, Art, Astronomy or Anatomy.  Math or Language may be dropped in the senior year and a course in another discipline substituted, but most highly selective colleges want to see that students are taking the most challenging curriculum available.
