8th Grade Projects
Our well-rounded, broad-based curriculum is developmentally appropriate and aims to promote respect, growth, responsibility, and self-awareness. An interdisciplinary approach encourages active learning, open and supportive student/teacher relationships, cooperative learning, and problem solving. Interactions with Middle School learners are characterized by respect, compassion, and flexibility. We help students learn to make choices and  understand the consequences of their actions. Foreign language, community service, music, the arts, outdoor experiences, and athletics are integral to a curriculum which fosters responsibility and a commitment to lifelong learning.

The interdisciplinary approach to learning is the hallmark of all three grade levels in the Middle School. Thematic units immerse students in all aspects of a particular topic or area of knowledge. From sixth-grade graphic novels to eighth-grade projects, the curriculum presents developmentally appropriate challenges for every learning style. Accelerated reading options are available at each grade level, and advanced math courses are available as well.

Middle School Play
Homeroom classes are team taught, with individual teachers focusing on particular areas of learning. Foreign language and learning enhancement options are available each term, so students can pursue areas of particular interest or work more intensively on academic skills. Art and music electives meet regularly during the week, allowing students to explore their creative sides. There are several opportunities for performance during the year, including fall and spring music presentations.

Technology is integrated into daily class activities. Laptops are available for student use at all grade levels, and students may bring their own computers to class as well. Each Middle School homeroom is equipped with an interactive “smartboard,” marrying the benefits of technology directly to regular daily coursework.

7th Grade Projects
Enrichment, a long-standing tradition in the Middle School, allows students to more fully explore areas of interest, and also to try new things. At the beginning of each term, students select from a new crop of Enrichment activities. Every Friday, school adjourns at 12:45, and students break out into their Enrichment groups. Activities are as varied as cooking classes, outdoor pursuits, sports, performing arts, financial classes, exploration, and community service. The Enrichment program also allows parents and community members a chance to share their knowledge and expertise with our students.
